I recently caught up with India Korner, who co-founded New Zealand based Method Recycling along with her husband Steve. We spoke about the importance of recycling in the workplace and how far the business has come since launching in 2015. The company is looking to revolutionise the way organisations approach waste management, particularly in a modern open plan office. Its staff count has reached a total of 11 employees, who work from Wellington, Auckland, Sydney, Melbourne and London. Method Recycling is on a clear mission to build the business globally and this couldn’t really happen fast enough.
Approximately 252,000 tonnes of plastic waste is disposed of in New Zealand landfills each year alone. We spend an average of 260 days per year at work, so there is no chance of this number decreasing unless we take action at work and in our homes. When I asked India, how to get more people thinking about recycling in the workplace, her answer is simple and to the point –
“Having recycling as a visible part of your workplace makes people think more about what they’re consuming and how they recycle”
